When our children were young, my wife and I had quite a struggle to get them to stay awake and pay attention to the sermon. They were quite long. We came up with a “trick” to get them to listen. We would take a small piece of paper and draw mark it off with a big tee. On one side we would write a word and on the other another word. Then, during the sermon, the girls would listen and tally when they would heard either of the two words.
In an age when everything is hitting all at once, we need to train ourselves to listen or the cacophony will drown everything.
